The old regional cultivars make their comeback: Gris Braibant - Reinette de Flandre - Reinette des Capucins - Reinette de Blenheim - Joseph Musch - Président Roulin - Cwastresse Double - Cabarette - Radoux Under a European program INTERREG Hainaut/Nord Pas-de-Calais, 10 old apple cultivars have been planted on 10 hectares (5 in Belgium, 5 in France). This project of restoring in value cultivars of the region is carried out in collaboration with the Regional Centre of Genetic Resources of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region in France and the n.p.o. GAWI.

The cultivars were chosen from the collection of the Regional Centre of Genetic Resources of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, as well as from that of the Phytopathology Station of the Agronomic Research Centre of Gembloux. The following criteria were taken into account: • the region they originated from, • their taste and special culinary qualities, • their lack of sensitivity to fungus diseases, • their capability to adapt to the culture of dwarf trees.
